The Board provides leadership and oversight for the Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET) in Belize City. This includes:

  • Setting policies guiding how ITVET operates

  • Approving the Institute’s strategic plans and priorities

  • Ensuring training programs align with national workforce needs and the goals of the Ministry of Education (Culture, Science & Technology) of Belize

                                                   Oversight of Programs and Quality

The Board helps ensure that TVET/ITVET programs are:

  • Relevant to the job market (trades like electrical, carpentry, culinary, A/C, cosmetology, etc.)

  • Competency-based and up to standard for entry-level and skilled work

  • Designed so students are prepared for employment or self-employment in their trades

                                                  Staff and Leadership Decisions

The Board plays a role in:

  • Recruiting and approving key teaching staff and instructors (e.g., language, electrical, A/C, food preparation, etc.)

  • Sometimes advising on leadership appointments and supporting professional development

  • Ensuring instructors meet teaching and competency standards set by the Ministry

                                                 Accountability & Reporting

They are responsible for:

  • Monitoring performance and outcomes of the school

  • Making sure programs are managed responsibly and effectively

  • Reporting progress to education authorities and stakeholders

                                            Supporting Growth & Development

The Board often:

  • Guides upgrades to facilities and curriculum (for example, adding renewable energy skills, modern labs, and improved workshop spaces)

  • Helps drive ITVET’s contribution to broader economic and workforce goals in Belize
